Chile's Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz and his Costa Rican counterpart, Manuel González Sanz, signed the Agreement on the Recognition of Diplomas and Certificates of Studies in General Elementary and Diversified Education or Secondary Education.

The signing took place within the framework of the II Meeting of the Council of the Integral Agreement of Association (AIA) between Chile and Costa Rica, which seeks to strengthen the bilateral relationship through the Political and Cultural Cooperation and Economic-Commercial Dialogue.

The Foreign Minister stressed that "this will allow students to come for higher education or work because their degrees will be respectively recognized. We care a lot, with a country as close as Costa Rica, to have these exchanges between the two countries".

"Chile and Costa Rica share fundamental principles and values, both the defence of democracy and human rights, free trade and openness to the world, as well as the functioning of regional organizations, the contribution to the United Nations, sustainable development, care for the oceans and the fight against climate change", added the Secretary of State.

The AIA was subscribed in October 2008, being the first of its kind for Costa Rica, and one of the few signed by Chile. The First Meeting of the AIA Council was held in Santiago in August 2011, and identified convergences on political, cooperation and trade issues.
