The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, accompanied President Michelle Bachelet in the ceremony of promulgation of the law that remediates and aids in the rehabilitation of the victims of anti-personnel landmines and explosive ordnances of military origin. The act provides economical compensations for the beneficiaries of the deceased, as well as medical benefits, rehabilitation and integration for the survivors.
With this new regulation, we fulfil one of the commitments of the Ottawa Convention, which was approved in 1997 and subscribed by our country in 2002, and it establishes the prohibition, destruction and cleanse of mined areas, alongside with the assistance to the victims.
The event was attended by the Ministers of National Defence, José Antonio Gómez; and of Health, Carmen Castillo.
