Chancellor Heraldo Muñoz inaugurated today the 1st High Level Academic Forum CELAC-China, which is held at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago between 17 and 18 October.

The event is part of the set of activities that are being carried out prior to the 2nd Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the CELAC Forum - between 21 and 22 January 2018, which will be hosted by our country.

During the inauguration, Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz highlighted the success of this event, recalling that "Chile was the first South American country to diplomatically recognize the People's Republic of China in 1970".

In addition to this, the Minister assured that among the challenges of the meeting will be to "establish an agenda on global issues and world order in which China and our continent agree to promote in the international arena. The task is to imagine a better future for Latin America, the Caribbean and China".

In the same vein, the Chancellor added that "China and Latin America and the Caribbean have many similarities. We are a group of countries that share the same challenges, we still have to fight poverty, we still have to give our citizens a better quality of life, we still have to create - each in its political model - those forms of participation where the various sectors of society can make their demands".
