The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, subscribed today an Agreement of Political Consultation with Malta, within the context of the Official Visit to Chile of the President of the country, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. The document signed in Palacio La Moneda counted with the presence of both dignitaries and it implies the institutionalization of the consultations though a permanent mechanism, which will give the relationship a boost.

Following the signing, both dignitaries conducted a jointpress conference, where the Chilean President highlighted that the agreement has "the objective to provide the spirit of cooperation of our governments with an official and permanent channel of communication".

The Head of State also stated that she hopes "this visit represents a significant step in the multiplication and consolidation of the ties that unite our countries, our nations, and we expect to continue down this road, strengthening our friendship, our relationship, our cooperation, for the good of our people".

The schedule of the visit of the President of Malta to Chile began with a bilateral meeting with President Michelle Bachelet and later with an extended gathering with the delegations of both countries. Some of the issues discussed were the presence of Malta in the European Union during the first semester of this year, the gender agenda of both countries and the challenges that the Sustainable Development Goals represent.
