Today, during the 41st General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Chile was elected as one of the members of its Executive Council, in charge of reviewing and supervising the development of the programs and the budget for the fulfillment of the organization's objectives.

On the 75th anniversary of UNESCO and in a global context determined by the post-pandemic recovery in access to education and progress towards new challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence, this is an important challenge.

Chile actively participates in the different activities at the global, regional, and national levels, being involved in different ministries and national institutions, which are coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chile has been a member of UNESCO since July 7, 1953. Santiago houses the headquarters of the Regional Office of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean. Likewise, Chile has 7 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
